The Acting Manager of Mwala Water Company, Mr. Peter Mwasuna, represented the CECM for Water, Irrigation, Environment, Sanitation and Climate Change, Hon. Onesmus Kuyu, during a site inspection of the Mwala Water Cluster Project, covering Mwala and Matungulu Sub-Counties.
The visit also served as a familiarization tour for the newly appointed CEO of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency, Mr. Sammy Napolos, who commended the strong collaboration between the National Government and the County Government of Machakos for the remarkable progress achieved in this transformative project.
The project scope includes:
- Development of water intake works at Ndarugu River in Kiambu County
- Construction of water treatment facilities at Kyeleni in Matungulu Sub-County
- Establishment of a booster station at Syathani in Mwala Sub-County
- Installation of water storage tanks at Muthei in Masii Ward
- Conveyance of treated water through a 105-kilometre main pipeline traversing Kayatta, Mbiuni, Mwala, Masii, Makutano, and Kyuluni
This landmark initiative, a strategic partnership under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, is set to deliver over 6.6 million litres of clean water daily to more than 100,000 residents in the region upon completion, expected by April 2026.
The project will significantly enhance water security, improve livelihoods, and provide residents of Mwala and Matungulu Sub-Counties with reliable access to safe, clean water—a testament to the County Government’s commitment to sustainable development and improved quality of life.
